Desk Work and Back Discomfort: Preparing for an Assessment
If sitting at work is uncomfortable, an assessment should consider more than your chair. Note when symptoms occur and how they affect your day.
General patient information from Chiropractic Solution. Sources are listed below. Your clinician will advise on your individual care.
Describe your working day
Tell your clinician how long you sit, which tasks are difficult and whether movement changes the discomfort. Bring questions about your work setup. A photograph of your desk without private work information may help the discussion.
Movement and symptoms
For many episodes of back pain, keeping active within your tolerance and continuing daily activities can help. Avoid prolonged bed rest. Stop exercises that worsen pain and seek advice about an appropriate plan.
When to get help
Arrange assessment if pain persists, keeps returning or limits daily activities. New bladder or bowel difficulties, numbness around the groin or severe symptoms following an injury need urgent medical assessment, rather than a routine clinic booking.
Plan the next step
An appointment request is not a diagnosis. Explain your symptoms, relevant history and goals during the consultation. The number and spacing of follow-up visits depend on your assessment and progress.
